Delicious like always
Small, nice place. I've been here more than a few times and it's some good sushi. Not too expensive either.
It was a coin-toss when we decided to try this place, but it paid off. Frankly I am surprised to find such a nice Authentic Japanese restaurant here deep in the state of VA. The appetizers (we had gyoza and edamame) we done right, and the sashimi deluxe I ordered was fresh and well prepared (ok maybe the slices were a bit on the small side). The salmon teriyaki my son ordered looked very creative in the decorations, something I have never seen. All in all the authenticity is high, and that includes the ice cream with real red beans. Even the chef looked really Japanese. The water Duncan was extremely helpful and friendly. The place is clean, comfortable and nice lighting.
Wonderfully good sushi and sashimi! I had a Blue Ridge roll which was unusual and excellent, as well as miso soup, salad with a really good ginger dressing, green tea and the sushi - sashimi combo boat!
Matsumoto has been a favorite at our house for years. Recently we've been doing carryout for obvious reasons, and it's been as delicious as always. They've also got sake available for carryout! Orders are prepared quickly and well packaged for the trip home.
The presentation was great, but the food tastes horrible. The sushi you buy in Kroger tastes better than that. The noodles my daughter got were chewy and bland. Very disappointing. The prices are WAY too high.
Food was really good (especially the millennium sushi roll, it's my favorite sushi that I've ever had now) and it was pretty reasonably priced, expect to pay about $12-$15 for a dinner meal (before tax).
The service is exceptional. My wife and I love going and never been disappointed with their food.
Excellent. The best sushi I've had in quite a while, and that includes the more exotic items. Great presentation. Pleasant staff, peaceful atmosphere. Will go again.
Great people, great food, great service. Best family owned sushi restaurant!
You can taste the difference in quality when coming here compared to store bought sushi even when its fresh. This place has a very nice staff and a nice quiet eating environment, better suited for small parties as opposed to a big group of people.
It was awesome sauce😍 Fresh, good quality products. I know good seafood when I smell it and that was some good seafood!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💪💪💪💪
Enjoyable restaurant overall, that I'd rate 3-1/2 stars, if I could. Cozy, intimate atmosphere, but the tables are smallish and it can feel crowded when busy. I'm not a sushi aficionado, but there's a wide-ranging menu of good food. Quality of wait staff can be inconsistent. Being greeted as you come and go by the owner/chef helps make it a friendly place.
So very disappointed! After waiting an hour, our waiter brings us half of our tables food, there was four of us. Informs us that the chef read the ticket wrong and the rest of our food will be out shortly. 45 mins later, we left without the rest of our food. We were told the chef, who is also the OWNER, is refusing to make our food. Great job! To bad you lost out on returning customers.
I had a Lunch Box which included a wonderful variety of delicious sushi. I will definitely go again.
Quality Japanese food, excellent service. Everything from tea, sake, plum wine, to the food, is all top quality.
Chef and server we're very friendly, never been there, felt like I could hang out with them like my buddies. Food was very fresh and priced rite! Kudos to the crew. If I ever make it back through this town, I know where I'm going for dinner!
I have loved every time we have come here
Very good sushi n tempura, tempura veggies real good
Great food and drinks, not very expressive.
Best Japanese cuisine in Lex Vegas, a little bit pricey however.
Great sushi, great staff
Delicious sushi 😋. The staff is super nice and the restaurant has a cozy atmosphere. This is a business I am happy to support.
Amazing. One of the top sushi places I've been to, and I've been to some very good places. The quality of their fish was superb good and preparation and presentation also spot on. The Nuta with a sweet miso-vinegar sauce was fantastic and the eel and uni were the best I think I've ever experienced. Five starts hands down.
Been here dozens of times, always excellent presentation, service, and consistently good food
Perfect every time
Good food/ Sushi, very Japanese ambiance and peaceful.
Great sushi and fast service. The owner was a pleasure to chat with while he made our order.
Fantastic food. Love their sushi. Wonderful staff and service. We drive 30 miles just to go here. One of two great places in SW Virginia. The other is Wasabis in Roanoke.
Great seaweed salad!
Very nice place, clean and presentable. Welcoming atmosphere. Its a narrow building but still comfortable, didn't feel too cramped. Service was quick, friendly and professional, more than you'd expect from a small place like this. The food was in good sized portions, tasted very good and the delivery was very aesthetic. Although considerably pricey, it was worth it.
Went and got some takeout today, the miso soup was bland, the iceberg lettuce in the salad was brown, the chicken old and dry with little to no flavor. Long story short the dog just got a $13 + tax dinner.
Exquisitely prepared: attention to detail was obvious. Everything we ate was so good and fresh! The owner/chef was very friendly and was a pleasure to speak to and watch him prepare various dishes for us. Everything about the experience was pleasant and will most definitely be coming again. This place knows sushi!
Nice sushi and udonFriendly staff
Great sushi! Available for take out or eat-in. Miso soup very tasty, 5 stars from picky eater kiddo. Open most days for lunch and dinner, but no lunch on Saturdays.
Good stuff!
My husband and I love coming here when we visit our family! Very good sushi. Service is always good.
Tonkatsu is crispy delicious goodness! The bulldog sauce is my favorite! Love the plum wine!
I think it deserves 5 stars because for a sushi restaurant in Lexington VA it is quite good. I've eaten there a lot and enjoyed my meal every time. Have I been to more impressive places? Sure. In Miami or New York, but for this little town I think it will surprise you how well they do it. You generally dont need reservations. They don't have liquor, but do have beer and wine (and saki, of course.) They have all the traditional menu items. The pieces aren't as big as youll find some places but they are always fresh. The service is pleasant enough and the ambiance is kinda nice. They keep the light low, but not to the point where you can't read. I'd definitely recommend it!
Great little sushi spot. Food is good, service is good. Big city flavors with small town atmosphere. One of our favorite places.
I never recieved my food. We had to ask a different waitress for refills.
Always great. Have been going here for years. Never have had a less than top notch experience. That goes for the food, service and atmosphere.
I always stop in when in Lexington. The best authentic, super fresh, delicious sushi. Matsumoto is a real artist. Cozy atmosphere and great service.
There is no better sushi and Japanese dishes than at Sushi Matsumoto.
Nice, relaxed atmosphere. Very acceptable sushi in a one-sushi restaurant town. We’d definitely go back!
Always delicious and a warm welcome. The udon, nuta, ans shumai are delicious additions to the always good aussu.
Had dinner here on Valentine's Day. The service, the food, everything... top notch!! We shared the sushi/sashimi deluxe and were not disappointed. The food was presented beautifully in a boat (with sushi flowers!) and everything was fresh. We will definitely be back!!
We are from out of town and we were so glad to run into this restaurant bc it looked and obviously was authentic Japanese restaurant, owned by Japanese. Food was good but not great though. People can have different opinions though based on their backgrounds. Our server forgot our orders on multiple occasions. It is nice small restaurant that I want to visit with couple friends and talk over food but not in a big group.
Everything tasted very good and flavorful, wonderful experience! Good friendly service, quick and freshly made. Green tea had a toasted sesame flavor I didn't like, it's not for everyone. Aside from that, I would recommend and definitely come back!
Fantastic food, great atmosphere and wonderful service. My go to date night.
